Who's The Leading First-Crop Sire? Nick DeMeric

Even if most racing is delayed, we're all hoping it will get underway sometime this spring or early summer, if for no other reason than so we can all find out the answer to our annual favorite question. We surveyed some top judges on who their leading first-crop sire is, and to give us some under-the-radar picks as well.

Frosted would be my top pick for freshman sire, but I would also have Exaggerator and Not This Time close behind.

We have two Frosteds on the farm right now, both of which I rank very highly. We have an absolutely gorgeous filly out of the mare All In With Aces. She's an outstanding walker and a generously proportionate type of filly with a lovely way of going and a great disposition. She's correct, sound, and just an exciting filly to work with.
I also have another just-turned yearling that we bought as a weanling that I'm really fond of too. He's a very good mover, and a very athletic and balanced-looking colt.

Tapit is obviously in the news frequently as an emerging sire of sires these days. I think Frosted got a great first book of mares, and he's been well managed. I think he has every right to be leading freshman sire.

I also have a couple Not This Times, and they all just seem to step up. We lean on them and they handle extra pressure well. They look precocious and they're well balanced. It's a great sire line. I think they're going to come out running and I think they're going to come out early. They look like they could be versatile in that they could go turf or dirt. I've heard from a couple other people that they like the Not This Times that they've seen, so that just underscores what I'm seeing with the ones that I have.
